COVANCE is a market leading global drug development services company and we provide support to the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industries.

 

At our central Leeds site, we conduct phase I and IIa clinical trials on healthy human volunteers at our state of the art 72 bed clinical ward. These trials play an essential role in developing a host of new medicines which improve the lives of millions.

 

We are currently recruiting for 2 Clinical Research and Laboratory Technicians to join our Clinical Operations team. These are entry level positions and are busy and demanding, “hands-on” roles. Working as part of a large trial team, you will play an active part in the execution of the clinical trials on behalf of our clients.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

You will accurately perform blood pressure, venipuncture, body-weight, pulse, respiratory rate, and temperature readings

You will prepare and accurately record  ECGs/Holters

You will be involved in the collection and processing of biological samples as specified in the protocol and ensure the proper distribution of those samples

You will monitor volunteers meals to ensure dietary compliance by research participants

You will assist in the preparation of rooms and medical equipment

You will assist with screening procedures as needed

You will maintain a clean, safe and efficient working and study environment

You will accurately record all research data obtained or observed

You will assist with QC of source documents and case report forms

You will maintain a basic understanding of current regulatory requirements

 

Additional Lab Tech Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Follows the laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.

Operates laboratory equipment.

Recognizes deviations from expected results and follows up appropriately.

Processes and ships PK samples according to study specific instructions.

Performs phlebotomy as needed.

Participates in the collection of biological specimens. 

Facilitates the work flow through the laboratory to ensure completion of processing in a timely manner.

Maintains and cleans laboratory equipment.

Inventories reagents and supplies to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Handles hazardous materials, reagents and chemicals in a safe manner in accordance to laboratory policy and procedure.

Washes laboratory glassware and maintains general laboratory cleanliness.

 

Please note the two technician roles work closely together and both sets of duties may be interchangeable at times.

Education/Qualifications

You will be typically be educated to G.C.S.E level or equivalent as a minimum requirement.

University graduates are also welcomed to apply to this role.

You must possess a good educational background in general science.

 

Experience

You must demonstrate a clear and evident desire to work in this industry along with a good understanding of what this role entails and what skills are valuable in this role.

Experience of working in a similar role would be advantageous but is not essential

Candidates must be willing to work a flexible shift pattern
