At our Alnwick site in Northumberland, we are looking to recruit an Equipment and Metrology Engineer. The duties of this role are listed below.

Responsibilities

To coordinate and supervise the metrology and scientific equipment maintenance activities at the Alnwick Research Centre, as allocated by the Head of the Facilities Management department. Ensuring compliance to company, regulatory and legislative standards where appropriate

The main areas of responsibility are to ensure the operational and maintenance performance of Laboratory Equipment, ensure external Metrology services are performed to agreed standards and frequency as well as management of the site Metrology system. This will include the following;

Participate in Company Training Plans

Follow current Health & Safety Legislation

Comply with company Rules and Procedures as well as with current Regulations
Supervise contractors whilst working on site ensuring they comply with current legislation.

Manage Laboratory Equipment maintenance and Metrology contracts.

Management of the Site Metrology system.

Manage, control, report and communicate on financial budgets for areas of responsibility to department and on site clients.

Develop and implement site standards and specifications within the incumbents’ technical remit.

Deputise for Engineering colleagues during periods of absence
Technical Duties


Record equipment history within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Be actively involved in the development of the CMMS System.

Act as a maintenance trouble-shooter.

Provide full control of the site’s Laboratory Equipment and Metrology System, including;

Review and approval of all proposed changes
o Supervise progress changes.

Approve actual changes after completion.

Verify updates to documentation (drawings, manuals etc.).

Accept newly installed plant and equipment into the site’s systems.

Prepare planned maintenance schedules, method statements & spares inventory.

Monitor and report on equipment performance.

Validate systems as required.

Provide engineering advice and assistance to FM department, including;

Participate in the completion of major capital projects.

Maintain standard site specifications.

Prepare specifications for new requirements.
Develop proposals for improvements to the Centre’s facilities, submit CER’s for management approval and coordinate the implementation of projects.

Review Laboratory Equipment CER’s and assists in defining the technical requirements prior to install
Health & Safety Duties


Be actively involved in Safety Programmes, Reviews & Audits.

Be a member of the Site Evacuation Team where the incumbent could be expected to act as an Incident Commander to co-ordinate the evacuation.

Complete & carry out Risk Assessments as required.

Be an Authorised Person to Issue the following within the incumbents technical expertise;

General Permit to Work.

Hot Work Permit.

Procurement Duties
Comply with the company Purchasing Policy to ensure goods and services are received as required, this will involve;

Specify requirements.

Obtain quotations for goods and services.

Prepare purchase requisitions for financial approval.

Approve goods and services supplied are in accordance with orders placed.

Review & implement assigned Annual Maintenance Contracts as required.

Review CER’s for Controls, Communications and Metrology content
An HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering subject and minimum five years experience in an engineering environment following a recognised apprenticeship
OR
A Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering subject with minimum three years experience in an engineering environment
The incumbent must have experience of metrology systems, of fault finding on equipment, of working within an engineering environment and the supervision and control of contractors.
