Procurement Manager

At our Harrogate site in North Yorkshire, we are hiring a Manager of Procurement. The key duties for the role are listed below.

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Responsible for the provision of an efficient and effective purchasing contract negotiation service to the Covance Harrogate site and Global Covance categories.
Participate in global Covance negotiations.
Ensure client satisfaction of internal Covance employees and management.
Be a solid business partner for Early Development and Global procurement teams.
Be responsible for the provision of efficient and effective stores operations.
Responsible for the provision of an efficient and effective transport service.
Develop the department in terms of people and procedures to ensure the proper provision of services.
Maintain a close link with operational departments to maximize the commercial advantages of the purchasing and stores operation.
Liaise with other divisions of Covance in order to negotiate Covance agreements with suppliers.
Liaise with other divisions of Covance to share and develop best practices.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication

Strong communication skills with Business Unit Management, local Procurement Team, and Global Procurement Team.
Maintain an awareness and understanding of Covance’s business activities in order to provide effective purchasing negotiation and adequate stock levels.
Develop strong relationships with external suppliers and internal customers to obtain the best commercial outcome for Covance.

Contract Negotiation

Proactively maintain n aggressive Sourcing strategy and provide leadership to the Purchasing and Stores staff.
Be responsible for the sourcing and procurement of strategic and high value items.
Be responsible for negotiating supplier contracts to ensure the best outcome for Covance, using key supplier selection and reducing the supplier base to an effective minimum.
Be a Global Covance and Early Development resource in Sourcing negotiations.

Systems

Maintain an on-going and critical appraisal of all systems and procedures within the department to ensure that they are appropriate for the business requirements.
Maintain an awareness of modern purchasing techniques and utilize them within Covance.
Ensure that the features of Covance’s purchasing systems are developed and maximized.

Financial
Keep controllable operating costs within budget.
Responsible for the following site-wide costs and keep them within budget – laundry, electricity and gas supply costs.
Responsible for the negotiation, monitoring and authorization of shipping costs.
Responsible for the stores inventory and ensure that stock/record levels are kept to an optimum level and losses are kept to a minimum.

Reporting

Provide to the VP Finance a report on a monthly basis on the activities and performance of the department.
Track and report cost saving activities
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS

CIPS qualified (or equivalent)
Minimum of 10 Years Sourcing experience
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
