Research Associate – Residues Chemist/ Method Development
An exciting opportunity for a Research Associate, working in custom built laboratories within the Environmental Sciences department of Covance Laboratory based, you will be working within a small team supporting the conduct of studies to investigate the behaviour of Agrochemicals, Veterinary Products, Biocides and Pharmaceuticals in the Environment.
The main duties of this role will be the analysis of soil, crop and meat samples for trace levels of pesticides, veterinary medicines, pharmaceuticals and other chemicals, using a range of techniques including HPLC, GC, LC-MS/MS and GC-MS. In addition, the role will involve the development, validation and troubleshooting of methods of analysis.
The successful applicant will have a strong track record in the development and validation of quantitative analysis methods using HPLC, GC, GC-MS and LC-MS/MS.
About You
You should ideally possess a degree in analytical chemistry or environmental science (or other related degree) and a minimum of two years relevant previous experience in a similar laboratory based role. In addition, applicants should have be well-organised, enthusiastic and be able to work unsupervised or as part of a team.

Relevant degree plus 2 years of appropriate experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for academic qualifications
• Ability to utilise word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and specialised software on personal computers.
• Ability to execute experiments in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
• Ability to review and critically evaluate current publications relating to work area.
• Concise and effective verbal and written communication skills with internal and external personnel.
• Knowledge of experimental design and ability to evaluate and interpret data.
• Ability to lead group discussions.
• Skilled in the use of all standard laboratory equipment.
