Scientist – Metabolism- COVANCE.

We are currently recruiting for a Scientist within our Metabolism department at our Harrogate site, North Yorkshire.

We are looking for a skilled and experienced scientist to provide specialist analytical and mass spectrometry support within our Metabolism and Environmental Sciences Department. This is a key role providing qualitative characterisation of components in a variety of matrices from animal and plant metabolism studies.

You will be involved in the LC/MS/MS analysis of samples from a number of study types using state of the art equipment (e.g. LTQ Orbitrap)
Provide interpretation and reporting of data for inclusion in GLP reports
Communicating results and scientific rationale to internal and external customers.
Provide training and supervision for junior members of staff.
Optimise resources, reviewing reports and helping to manage the growth of this busy group.

About you

The successful candidate will have good analytical chemistry skills and a sound understanding of SPE and LC techniques along with experience of compound identification by mass spectrometry methods. Previous experience of performing metabolism studies and working within a GLP environment would be an advantage.

PhD or relevant degree, with 3 years' relevant experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for academic qualifications
Expertise in preparation and analysis of samples by LC-MS, metabolite profiling and chromatographic techniques as well as experience in the use of radiolabelled compounds would be an advantage.
Experience of interpreting LC-MS data and report preparation.
Motivation and forward thinking are key attributes coupled with strong communication and planning/organisation skills.

Skilled in instrument operation, diagnosing and rectifying faults.
Experience of interpretation and evaluation of data.
Ability to review and critically evaluate current publications relating to work area.
Experience of a range of techniques/approaches relevant to the department and/or unique expertise for a specific scientific service
Skilled in the use of word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and specialised software on personal computers
Concise and effective verbal and written communication skills with internal and external personnel.
Experience in coaching, mentoring and supervision.
