UK government 'forging links with overseas colleges'
UK government 'forging links with overseas collages'12/9/2011 11:36:05 AM
The government in the UK is focusing on the internationalisation of higher education (HE) by forging links with colleges overseas, in countries such as Brazil, Indonesia, India and China.
Business secretary Vince Cable noted that the international focus of universities in the UK is vital and the British Council has a "pivotal role" to play in furthering the connections with the HE systems in other nations.
He went on to say it is essential that overseas students are attracted to the UK as this is a market in which the country excels, because of the "global standing" of its universities and colleges.
Mr Cable reminded potential applicants that there is no visa limit on the numbers of students coming over to study here, with immigration reforms merely intended to weed out bogus university entrants.
This comes after the politician revealed that government funding of £18.7 million will be used to support apprenticeships to degree equivalent, thus allowing companies, universities and colleges to deliver the best skills that are required for growth.
